Summer is in full swing, and with it come long days enjoying the great outdoors, and lots of sunshine! While we all need a bit of sun to boost our moods and our vitamin D levels, what we don't need is sunburn! After two solid months of giving the new Sun Protector SPF 30 sunblock from Protector Brands a workout, I'm happy to recommend you get some for your family ASAP!
While I started using the sunblock lotion right away, its biggest test was our family road trip to Oklahoma the end of May. I used some on my shoulders and neck each morning before hopping in the car for that day's adventures and came home with a nice golden glow, and no major sunburn! That was a win in my book! We have used it several times since them, and the one reminder we have for you is that just like any other sunblock, you DO have to reapply it throughout the day!
Sun Protector sunscreen uses Non-nanoparticle Zinc Oxide as its active ingredient, and includes these organic ingredients to make it creamier and great for your skin: beeswax, coconut oil, sunflower seed oil, and Jojoba oil. It comes out a little thick, but as you spread it around the heat from your hands and you skin help work it into a nice cream that covers well with just a small amount. We have used various zinc-oxide sunscreens for years, and this one spreads much better than some of the more well known natural brands. As with any other sunscreen, reapply at least every two hours, or after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating.
Perhaps my favorite part about Sun Protector sunscreen is that it also comes in a sun stick to toss in your purse and take everywhere! This has been a great way for me to reapply sunblock on the go... or to protect my family on any last minute nature walks! For those of you who follow our adventures on Instagram, you know we are often outdoors - like daily - and that means being prepared for whatever nature dishes out! It might have been cloudy when we left home, and sunny by the time we reached the park. If someone forgot to apply sunblock at home I can easily use the sun stick to cover their faces and shoulders on-the-go.
For a recent day at her outdoor job at Conner Prairie, Arlene forgot to apply sunblock before leaving home. While she has a straw hat to wear for her costume, I knew there would come a time when she took it off, and since our redhead does not like being burnt, I reached in my purse and grabbed the sun stuck to apply to her nose and cheeks. She got some more freckles that day, but thankfully - no sunburn!
You may be wondering why we chose to use a mineral-based sunscreen instead of a chemical based one. That's a good question! We have used Zinc-oxide based sunscreens for the past decade or so because we do not want to put anything on our skin, or that of our daughters, that might cause skin irritation or possibly cause a chemical hormone disruption. Zinc oxide is a physical barrier between you and the sun's UVA and UVB rays. The zinc is particularly good for our daughter with psoriasis as this natural sunblock helps her skin regulate its inflammation response while keeping her safe from sunburn. I like the combinations used in the Sun Protector lotion and sun stick because they use moisturizing oils that keep my skin soft. It encourages me to use it every day, not just on those when I know I'll be spending a lot of time outdoors!
If you're looking for protection from those nasty mosquitos and ticks that pester so many of us - take a look at the Bug Protector line as well. I heartily recommend both the mosquito and tick repellent sprays and we have enjoyed many bug-free outdoor adventures outdoors with them already this year!
Disclaimer: I received a free sample of Sun Proctor in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions are mine or those of my family. I am disclosing this in accordance with FTC regulations.
P.S. Even if I didn't get a free sample, I would have purchased Sun Protector sunblock anyway! It is just that good! :)
