Your Guide to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks

Your Guide to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks (True North Series)It has been many, many years since I was last in Yellowstone, but the amazing photography of this book quickly transported me back. Even before President Ulysses S. Grant signed the bill into law making Yellowstone our first National Park on March 1, 1872, Americans were fascinated with the geothermal features in the area. We are still fascinated today. This book from the 'True North Series' by Master Books will have you wanting to plan your next trip!

This sturdy guide (about 6x8") would fit nicely into your backpack for any day trips you may have planned into either Yellowstone or the Grand Tetons. The stellar photographs are inspiring, and if you DO plan a trip, the larger photos are marked with which direction North is,allowing you to see the same views in real life if you wish. The only thing I would improve upon in the guide would be to add a plastic sheet lifter to the front of the spiral binding because the pages sometimes get stuck when you're closing the book. (Not that you'll be closing it anytime soon!)

The more than 180 pages, divided into 11 sections, cover topics such as perspective, fossils, history, and tips on how to see the parks. There are even suggested itineraries based upon how long you will be spending in the park. The guide is quick to point you to check current resources (like the National Park website) for the weather, road closings, and other warnings. Many of the pages are fold-outs, giving you a larger picture, and more information about specific geothermal features, animals, or the park's history. Near the back of the book you will find a handy glossary (for those of us who are not geology buffs.) There are also two whole pages devoted to listing other resources, including websites, books, and DVDs, for those who just can't get enough before they visit.

If you're going to Yellowstone or the Grand Teteons, you'll definitely want a copy of this book. If a visit is out of reach, then enjoy the next best thing, read the book...and daydream!

As a reviewer for New Leaf Publishing Group, I received a complimetary copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are mine.
