Define

Today's writing prompt from Kate is: define

Only 5 minutes....GO!

define, five minute Friday writing prompt, fruits of the Spirit

The dictionary definition of define is: to state or describe exactly the nature, scope, or meaning of

What defines me?

What states my meaning, what describes my nature? What is the scope of my life?

I would hope that my life would be defined by the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Sometimes I get off the mark though, and my life is defined by crankiness, a bad attitude, and too much to do.

How do I hit the rest button and get back where I belong? Prayer and time spent in God's Word.

Reading God's Word defines who I should be, by helping me learn to be more like Christ. Prayer gives me an opportunity to commune with God, to ask Him to show me where I need to be transformed, and where I can petition Him on behalf of others. The very best way I know to stop being cranky with someone is to start praying for them. You cannot love a person through prayer and remain mad at them. If you are truly surrendering to God's will in your prayers, He will remind you again and again how much He loves them, and how much He loves you.

Be defined by the things that matter: love, joy. peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Against such things there is no law. ~ Galatians 5:22-23

Stop. :)

  1. Carol, that is so true. I experienced this a few days ago. Your words challenge me again: to take my disgruntledness to God. I can't change people, but He can change me. Thank you. So good.

  2. Yes, it would be amazing to be defined by love, joy, peace etc, and I agree that as we spend time with God, praying and reading his Word, it does transform us so these things define us more and more. Visiting from FMF #39
