Crave

Five minute Friday, writing prompts, crave, fellowship, community

Today's Five Minute Friday prompt is: crave

GO!

When we first hear the word crave do we immediately think of food - chocolate, steak, fresh fruit - things like that? But what do we really crave? What do our souls crave?

This past week I was blessed to get to spend a good chunk of time with two of my dear friends and during both conversations, several themes kept coming up. The things it seems we crave in our souls are: forgiveness, fellowship, honesty, and community.

Forgiveness begins and always ends with what Jesus did for us on the cross. We cannot truly forgive others, until we have come to understand our great need for Jesus' forgiveness, and how free we are after we have accepted His gift.

Fellowship is something I hear more and more in conversations these days, both in one on one talks, and through online discussions. Our souls are weary of this world and we crave true, authentic fellowship where we can hear others share from their hearts, and where we feel comfortable sharing from ours.

Honesty is a hard thing sometimes, but without it, we cannot get the other thing our souls are craving: community!

Community seems to have been lost over the past 20 years or so as we Americans spent too much time chasing a dream and not enough focusing on God. Now that we have begun to experience community again, we want everyone to feel this joy that comes from having others in our lives.

STOP!

Only five minutes, and the floodgates have just opened! Stick around because I'll be sharing more thoughts on these four things all month.

  4. There is noting like the blessing of community. To truly open up and live life with others, carrying each other's burdens, encouraging one another. I crave this community. Visiting you from the FMF at #6. Blessings!

    1. Lori,
I'm planning on covering them as themes for next year, so there will be more than one post on each :)

  6. I so agree about the craving of community. All the "stuff" and the screens and the busyness of our lives can fill our days but leave us feeling more empty than ever. I find myself in this season now. Not necessarily being super busy myself, just missing out on those precious connections and craving them more than ever.
Peace for carving out time for moments of community.

  7. I think you are right, that if we are really honest, we do crave fellowship and community more than anything else. Sometimes our cravings for food are a disguise for our deeper needs.

  9. Oh wow- I have been craving fellowship, TRUE friendship (my true friends are hours and hours away), and community! We haven't found a church home yet (after a move 14 months ago), and I haven't found that connection yet. The Lord reminded me this afternoon that what I am looking for can be found in Him; and He told me once I get back to seeking Him more, He will have that friendship ready for me. Looking forward to your other posts!

  10. I love this! I would have totally gone off on how healthy it is to eat what your body craves - as long as it is not sugar, potato chips and junk food. :D But, I sincerely crave genuine fellowship. ♥
